Wood Fence Replacement

Removal of a failing fence and installation of a new one along the same line.

A grey, weathered fence line due for replacement, seen against an open sky.

About wood fence replacement

When a fence has reached the end of its service life, patching stops being economical. Replacement removes the old structure — including posts and footings where they interfere — and installs a new fence along an agreed line.

We walk the existing fence with you first. Sometimes a section can be saved and only part of the run needs replacing; we will say so rather than quoting the whole line by default.

Scope

What is included, and what to think about

Typical inclusions

  • Assessment of the existing fence line
  • Removal of the old fence and disposal of debris
  • Removal of old concrete footings where they obstruct new posts
  • New posts, rails and pickets as specified
  • Gate replacement where included in the estimate

Practical considerations

Things that genuinely affect the work, said plainly before you commit.

  • Old footings can be larger or deeper than expected, which affects removal effort.
  • Shared fence lines may need agreement with a neighbour before work starts.
  • Landscaping, irrigation lines and utilities near the fence line need to be identified.
  • Disposal volume depends on the length and construction of the existing fence.
